Notes from the Democratic Convention
3:04 AM August 27, 2008
Here we are in Denver - 2:00 a.m. after a full day of meetings and events. I must say, I love conventions - the excitement is incredible and you can't help but get caught up in it. The delegations are all meeting, people are running around in funny hats and tee-shirts; corporations, non-profits - all sorts of groups are holding meetings - and yes, party after party with no end of food and drink. Everyone is happy, everyone is friendly, everyone is hopeful. The hotels are all packed and it is virtually impossible to find a seat at a restaurant or a taxi. What an extraordinary amount of money is being sent!
Tomorrow is WIPP's big day. All year we have been working on our Economic Blueprint together with more than 30 small business organizations - and tomorrow we will unveil it (next week we go to Minneapolis to unveil it at the Republican conventio). We had scheduled a room and lunch, with the help of long term supporter and friend, AT&T for about 50-75 people - but we are up to 200 now with a waiting list. I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry and have no idea how we will fit everyone in the room if everyone comes. There is a lot of fall-out (no-shows), which I hope will take us down to a reasonable number. Or, maybe, hardly anyone will come at all!
