Rainy Day but Bright Spirits
4:30 PM September 3, 2008
It was a rainy day in St. Paul, MN, on Tuesday, but that did not dampen the spirits of the delegates there for the Republican National Convention. According to weather reports, the rain was ironically residue from Hurricane Gustav which hit the Gulf Coast the prior day, causing the RNC to scale back activities.
With the rainy and windy weather, the scaled back activities, smaller crowds, and demonstrations and arrests, there is not as much palpable activity or excitement as there was at the DNC. This also may be because activities are spread across both Minneapolis and St. Paul, which are not as close as one might imagine. The Xcel Center, where the convention is being held, seats less than 20,000, quite a reduction from the Pepsi Center and Invesco Field in Denver where the Democrat's convention was held.
Unfortunately, we had to leave before the evening's activities so consequently, did not get to experience much of this convention, compared to last week's DNC. When we made travel plans, we were obviously not planning on having the opening day's activities cancelled. And, once travel plans are made, its virtually impossible to change them without extremely high charges.
We also have been gone from our offices for almost two weeks, and have to get back to tend to business.
I traveled to these conventions with Nancy Goshow who is Managing Partner of Goshow Architects in New York City. We worked the exhibit and press halls and continued to pass out information on WIPP's Economic Blueprint and spread the word about women business owners. There is a podcast with Nancy on SBTV.com that I recommend you listen to, and a few others with other women business owners who attended the Conventions.
We are already making our plans for four years from now as we have seen this be an extremely valuable experience both for us individually, and as business owners. We willingly go another step, and are passionate about helping to spread the word that women business owners MUST LET THEIR VOICES BE HEARD. We are finding that more and more people, politicians, and media are listening so there's no better time than NOW.
